Prayer Vigil

Though we have on good authority that prayer, fasting and acts of charity are powerful, we also know that many of the immediate fruits of the 40 Days for Life efforts have been related to the Prayer Vigil. Your participation in this aspect of the movement can’t be overestimated.

For the past two years groups and individuals from Fairfield County have participated in the 40 Days for Life – Bridgeport Prayer Vigil at the Summit Abortion Clinic on 3787 Main Street in Bridgeport. Over 50 Catholic, Evangelical and Protestant churches have adopted days or several hours at the Vigil. On each of the 40 Days for Life, from February 13th to March 24th 2013, volunteers peacefully pray at the Abortion Clinic from 10 AM until 6 PM. Volunteers may choose to hold signs as they pray. The signs display mothers and fathers lovingly embracing their infants, reminding those passing by of the joyful potential of the unborn.  Participants sign a “Statement of Peace” with a pledge that they will conduct themselves in a Christ-like manner.

Last year in Bridgeport six women told prayer vigil volunteers they decided not to have abortions. Several dozen people who stopped by the vigil said they lamented their abortions and wished someone might have been there to help them choose life. The clinic went from performing abortions three mornings a week to two. Hopeline, a prolife center, also located on Main Street, which offers support to disadvantaged expectant mothers, reported significant increase in traffic.  Please also read wonderful results achieved by National 40 Days for Life in the Results section of this site.
